The Big Wild Read is linked to BBC’s Breathing Places environment initiative which is encouraging people to engage with nature. It is part of public libraries' new partnership with BBC Vision Learning, led by the Reading Agency.
As part of Breathing Places, the Summer Reading Challenge is a special partner in The Woodland Trust's Tree for All campaign, the biggest ever children’s tree planting initiative, which aims to involve one million children in planting twelve million trees across the UK. Children taking part in the Big Wild Read will be helping to reach that target: every book that a child reads as part of The Big Wild Read will earn ‘tree tokens’, which will be translated into up to 20,000 new trees for regional UK woods.
